Two entrances, two different trips

Khao Sok is really two destinations sharing a name, and they are an hour apart by road. The village, on the park’s western edge, is the base for jungle trails, river tubing and night walks. Cheow Lan Lake — created by the Ratchaprapha Dam — is reached from a separate pier to the east, and is where the postcard scenery lives: drowned limestone towers rising straight out of green water, and raft-house bungalows floating against the cliffs.

Book a lake trip and you never see the village; book a village stay and the lake is a separate outing. Knowing that before you book saves a wasted half-day of backtracking.

The forest here is routinely described as older than the Amazon — and whatever the exact accounting, it is genuinely ancient rainforest, with wild elephants, hornbills, gibbons you will hear at dawn, and Rafflesia blooms in the wet months.

Can you visit Khao Sok as a day trip from Khao Lak?
Yes. Lake day trips run year-round: hotel pickup, about 1 h 45 by road to the Ratchaprapha dam pier, a longtail boat among the karsts, lunch at a raft house, and back by evening. It is a long day but the standard way to see Cheow Lan Lake.
Is Khao Sok open during the monsoon?
Yes — the park and the lake stay open year-round. The southwest monsoon (roughly May to October) is the greenest time; trails are muddier and leeches are about, but the lake trips run and the waterfalls are at full strength.
Village or lake — where should you stay?
The village on the park edge suits jungle trails, tubing, and budget guesthouses. The raft houses on Cheow Lan Lake are the signature overnight — floating bungalows reached only by boat.
