Khao Lak restaurants, Bang Niang market and nightlife

Khao Lak eats out along one road. The restaurants follow Route 4 for about 25 km of coast, thickest around Nang Thong and Bang Niang, and most hotels sit within a short ride of the busy stretch. This page does not rate restaurants. It lists the ones the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2026 selects near the coast, says how far each is by road, and covers Bang Niang's night market and the evenings.

The 2026 Michelin Guide lists 22 places in Phang Nga province. Seven are on the Khao Lak coast: four in Khuk Khak, the subdistrict that covers Nang Thong, Bang Niang and the beaches north of them, and three in Lam Kaen, just south of the Khao Lak headland. Four of the seven hold a Bib Gourmand, which Michelin gives for good cooking at a moderate price. Four more are in Takua Pa town, about half an hour north. The table lists each with the distance by road from Bang Niang market, without traffic.

Two of the seven are hotel restaurants: Juumpo is on the ground floor of Hotel Gahn on the main road, and Beach Grill is at Devasom Khao Lak Beach Resort. You do not need to stay at either hotel to eat there.

Takua Pa, a drive north

Takua Pa is the district town, about 30 km north of Bang Niang. It has four places in the selection, one of them, Hok Kee Lao, with a Bib Gourmand. It is an easy half-day out by car or scooter, and a change from the beach strip.

The province's only Michelin star is further away. Aulis, the guide's one-star restaurant in Phang Nga, is at Iniala Beach House on Natai beach, near the Sarasin Bridge, about 55 km south of Bang Niang by road.

Bang Niang night market

The market is on the main road in Bang Niang village, across from the Police Boat 813 memorial. The Department of Internal Trade records it as running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, the days it kept when it reopened on 9 April 2005 after the tsunami, with more than 200 stalls. Some current listings add Thursday, so ask your hotel before planning a dinner around it.

Evenings and nightlife

None of Khao Lak is nightlife. It was rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami as a quieter, more family-oriented alternative to Phuket, and it stayed that way. Nang Thong has the most restaurants and bars on the coast and Bang Niang has the market, but an evening here is dinner and a drink, not a club. For a strip of bars and clubs, Patong in Phuket is about 90 minutes south.

In the low season

From May to October some restaurants, bars and dive shops along the coast close for months. The hotel restaurants keep running, and the places that serve local customers mostly do too, but check before you drive out to one.

Getting between them

The restaurants are spread along the coast road, so plan a way to get around. There is no public bus worth planning around, so it is a hire car, a scooter, or paying for a taxi each time.
